Conference Realignment Topic For College Sports Symposium Friday at Texas A&M

Southeastern Conference (SEC) Commissioner Mike Slive will be one of five prominent panel members discussing athletic conference realignment at the College Sports Symposium Friday (April 20) at Texas A&M University.

The symposium, scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Zone Club at Kyle Field, is sponsored by Texas A&M’s Laboratory for the Study of Intercollegiate Athletics, which is part of the Department of Health & Kinesiology. Organizers of the event say the panelists will discuss topics ranging from the business aspects of conference realignment to the idea of super conferences.

Other panelists: Texas A&M President R. Bowen Loftin, Tommy Bain, chairman of the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association, Grant Teaff, executive director of the American Football Coaches Association, and the moderator, John Rhadigan of Fox Sports Southwest.

“We want our students to learn the logistics behind the changes being made, as well as the sport business aspects,” says Meredith Benkendorfer of the Department of Health & Kinesiology’s Sports Management Program and one of the symposium planners.

Tickets for the event are free to students with a valid ID and $15 for non-students. Tickets are available at the MSC Box Office at (979) 845-1234.
