Flores on Federal Budget Deficit: We Can Fix It

Updated: Tue 9:39 AM, Sep 18, 2012

There's a lot going on politically across the nation as we're just 50 days out from a presidential election.

On the other hand, Congress isn't too busy as it gets ready to go on recess. So it's a good chance for lawmakers to feel the pulse of their constituents.

Congressman Bill Flores of Bryan did that with a town hall meeting Monday night at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center next to the Bush Library.

And the huge federal budget deficit was one of the topics.

"So we've got to fix these and we can find a way to fix it where we can preserve and protect social security and Medicare, not only for today's retirees but for future generations as well", said Congressman Flores.

Meanwhile you can expect to hear more policy details from Mitt Romney in the days and weeks ahead.

The Republican's campaign is planning to do more to distinguish his ideas from those of President Obama.

In newly published polls, Romney no longer has an edge over Obama as the candidate better able to handle the federal budget deficit and taxes.
