The Bryan man accused of sending a bomb threat e-mail to Texas A&M was a Bryan High grad and was even once an honor's student at a college in Little Rock.
News 3 spoke with Dereon Kelly's mother and brother Tuesday and learned that Dereon was dating Brittany Henderson.
Henderson was arrested and accused of sending in a bomb threat e-mail to Texas State University just a day before the A&M incident.
Relatives don't believe 22-year-old Dereon Kelly sent that e-mail, which caused the evacuation of the entire Texas A&M campus and say he was working to turn his life around.
Dereon Kelly is charged with making a terroristic threat. He's accused of sending an e-mail which said the A&M campus will be bombed at noon October 19th.
50,000 people had to evacuate the campus for more than four hours.
Kelly's brother, Artis Washington isn't believing his brother caused the chaos
"You know he came from a negative outlook on himself or whatever. You know he was, he got into a little bit trouble, but he went back to school. He got his high school diploma, he went to college and was on his honor roll list," said Artis Washington.
Texas A&M Police say Kelly had a relationship with Brittany Henderson.
She's the same woman who had been arrested a week ago for making a bomb threat at Texas State University in San Marcos.
Police say he used her e-mail account to send the message to Texas A&M from his phone.
At the time of his charges he was already in jail for warrants out of Dallas. Those current charges include fraudulently using someone's id and even DWI-Open Container.
Dereon's mother Lula Brownlee said he'd been on scholarship at Arkansas Baptist College doing football and track and even made the Dean's List.
"He was taking a break. He was thinking about transferring to A&M. So I'm thinking if he's gonna be accused of sending a bomb threat why would you go ahead and mess that up," said Lula Brownlee.
Despite his family's' beliefs, Dereon Kelly remains in the Brazos County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
His bonds for the Dallas County warrants haven't been set.
If convicted of making a terroristic threat he faces up to ten years in prison.
Brittany Henderson is expedited to be transferred to the Hays County Jail later this week.
She currently remains jailed in Bryan on a $300,000 bond.
