With how unstable the economy is, and unemployment creeping back up, nearly every aspect of the market is being touched.
One area that's not? Petroleum engineering.
In fact most jobs in the oil and gas industry are booming. The Petroleum Engineering Department at Texas A&M University says it's seen their enrollment grow three fold over the last five years. Department Chair Doctor Stephen Holditch says the growing technology and discoveries are fueling the boom.
"The technology behind horizontal drilling, hydraulic fracturing has opened up huge natural gas reserves that five years ago we weren't producing," explains Holditch.
Doctor Holditch says getting kids interested in math and science as early as the 6th and 7th grades helps to keep their interest in science in college.
