COLLEGE STATION, Feb. 25, 2013 – Reid Joseph, a junior industrial distribution major from Tontitown, Ark., has been elected student body president for Texas A&M University. Joseph will officially take office in April for a one-year term in leading the university’s 50,000-member student body—one of the largest in the nation.
A member of the Corps of Cadets and a third-generation Aggie, Joseph has been involved in the Student Government Association (SGA) since his freshman year. Also, he has served on the Texas A&M Traditions Council and the Muster Committee, which plans the university’s annual April 21 remembrance of Aggies who died during the past year. Additionally, he was selected as a member in the Corps of Cadets’ prestigious Ross Volunteer Company and he serves as academic chair for Squadron 17. In his freshman year, he was named “Most Outstanding Fish” in the corps.
Also, Joseph was named one of the Texas A&M Foundation’s “Maroon Coats,” a honor that involves enhancing the impact of the Texas A&M Foundation by acting as hosts at events and by providing ambassadorship, stewardship and selfless service.
During a campaign debate, Joseph said student government must make sure to heed the concerns of students. “We take the concerns of the student body and bring them to administration,” Joseph said.
He said providing support for students who are veterans will be a priority.
“We are very excited about all our veteran relations in the upcoming year,” Joseph said.
