COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Retired Texas Associated Press sports writer Denne Freeman has been inducted into the Texas A&M Former Journalism Students Association Hall of Honor.

Freeman is a 1959 graduate of Texas A&M. He retired from the AP in 1999 as Dallas-based Texas sports editor after more than 30 years with the news cooperative.

Freeman was on campus Saturday in College Station to accept the honor. A plaque with his name and photo will join similar awards to more than 15 other former Aggie journalists at the offices of The Battalion, the school newspaper.

During his award-winning AP tenure, Freeman covered the Dallas Cowboys, 10 Super Bowls and three Olympics.
