SEC to Distribute Record $289.4 Million in Revenue

Texas A&M officials are feeling better than ever about their move to the Southeastern Conference. The SEC announced Friday that the league made more money than ever in the 2012-2013 school year

The SEC will distribute $289.4 million to the 14 schools in the revenue sharing plan, which is the highest total ever distributed in SEC history.

Each institution, including A&M, will get an average of $20.7 million.

Texas A&M Athletics Director Eric Hyman says that number is expected to grow with the SEC Network coming in 2014.

"Obviously football drives a lot, basketball does to a certain extent, but the rest of our programs don't generate revenue - or really any amount of revenue that really adds up. So this underwrites all of our programs," said Hyman.

Something Hyman says is much needed since A&M didn't participate in revenue sharing last year.

Even with the redevelopment of Kyle Field on the horizon, A&M officials say the multi-million dollar payout will benefit more than just the football program.

"We need to address the track, we need to address the softball stadium. There's a lot of issues we need to address to be able to put competitive programs out there," said Hyman.

Hyman says those improvements could be possible now that A&M is part of the most lucrative college athletic conference in the country.

The Big 12 also announced Friday that it will distribute $19.8 million per team for 2012-2013 school year.
