Sharp: Interviews Continue in A&M Presidential Search

More Video...

TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY Seven months ago Friday, the Texas A&M System named a search advisory committee to find candidates to become the next president of the College Station campus, but next-to-nothing has been provided by the System about how that search is going.

Back in August when the search committee was named, a press release from the System noted, "The group will begin the process as soon as possible and regular updates will be furnished as the process moves forward."

That has not happened.

System Chancellor John Sharp told News 3 the only update the System could provide was that interviews are being conducted, and that the school won't disclose names, which is generally the case in any big university presidential search.

Mark Hussey has been serving as the interim president since R. Bowen Loftin's departure earlier this year, and Hussey has said he doesn't want the job full time.

Sharp says Hussey's work has made it easier with the search.

"We're real comfortable in taking our time until we get exactly the right president that Texas A&M deserves," Sharp said. "We're not going to rush anything. The search committee's not going to rush it."

The search committee will provide no less than three names to the System Board of Regents, but the board doesn't have to take the recommendations.
