Texas A&M University Police Receive Crime Prevention Awards

COLLEGE STATION Texas A&M University Police's Bait Bike program nets the department one of three awards at the Central Texas Crime Prevention Association ceremony in Austin Tuesday.

The Bait Bike Program was honored as Crime Prevention Program of the year. Started in 2009, the program has had success thanks to the patrol officers and investigators who work diligently to reduce bicycle theft on campus, a press release said.

From September 1, 2012 – August 31, 2013, officers recovered 101 of the 167 bicycles reported stolen on campus, a 60% recovery rate with an estimated dollar value of $33,614.00. These efforts also resulted in 37 arrests.

The department was also recognized as an Outstanding Crime Prevention Agency for the Year 2013 and Chief of Police J. Michael Ragan was recognized as Outstanding Crime Prevention Manager –
Specialized Agency.
