Tuition Increased Proposed at A&M

Students who want to go to Texas A&M may have to pay a little more.

A&M President R. Bowen Loftin is recommending a 3.95 percent increase in designated tuition for Fiscal Year 2013. He announced the proposal at a hearing on campus Wednesday.

The increase amounts to an additional $176 per semester for students. It's for faculty and staff merit pay increases, which the university has held off on in recent years due to budget issues.

Loftin will also recommend a 3.95 percent cap on increases to tuition and fees for Fiscal Year 2014.

The System Board of Regents will ultimately have to approve Loftin's plan.
