A tournament of battling robots is the main event at Sacramento State's Engineering Expo Sunday (2/18). A total of 30 teams of college students and adults from around the country are competing for a cash prize and the Hornet trophy as their robots battle through a series of elimination rounds.
Visitors can watch the battle live from the stands surrounding the miniature arena. It is projected onto a large screen. The robots, sometimes referred to as antbots, are 16 ounces.
In addition to the robot battle, the expo featured demonstrations of other mechanical engineering projects, including a mini-Baja race car, a 220 pound fighting robot and an interactive Lego Mindstorm robot display.
