Doctors are calling it nothing less than a miracle, a woman who has been in vegetative state since November 2000 is now awake, alert and talking.
Christa Lilly had a heart attack and then a stroke in 2000 and that's
the last thing she says she remembers.
Six and a half years after slipping into a vegetative state, Lilly has
come out of it and filled her family with overwhelming joy.
Christa Lilly says she was surprised to find out her youngest daughter
is now 12-years-old and that during her time in a vegetative state she
became a grandmother to three children.
Christa's mother has been the one taking care of her all this time.
Minnie Smith says her prayers were answered this past Sunday (3-4-07) when her daughter woke up. Minnie says for the last six-and-a-half years she would check on her daughter and say "Hi baby, how are you doing?" On Sunday, Christa responded with "I'm fine."
Christa has been on a feeding tube over the years and has just started
Her neurologist says he can't explain this and calls it "mystical."
Minnie Smith says her daughter has awakened four times in the past, but nothing like this.
Doctors say there is a chance that Christa Lilly could slip back into
her vegetative state, but tonight the family is basking in a miracle and
hoping she is back for good.
