Adrian the Coyote will soon be free once again. Once given a physical checkup by Animal Rescue workers, he is expected to be released in a rural area about 30 miles northwest of Chicago.
The coyote wandered into a downtown Quiznos sandwich shop Tuesday afternoon and tried to nudge its way behind the counter before settling in a refrigerator that usually just holds bottled drinks.
The door had been propped open on the warm afternoon, and the small coyote entered and tried to nose its way to the food preparation area, according to employees.
A worker blocked a swinging door with his foot, so the animal tried to scramble over the counter. Eventually, it gave up and sat atop a row of Diet Pepsis in the cooler for about 40 minutes before an Animal Control Officer came to get him.
By the way, Adrian was named after the worker that cared for him overnight.
