A New York couple will be settling into their new home in Sedona, Arizona after getting to Arizona is a bit of an unusual way; by cab.
Retiree Bob Matas jokingly invited a cab driver in Manhattan to come along on their upcoming move to Arizona. That invite came three months ago and what started as a joke became reality.
On April 10th, Bob and Betty Matas packed up their two cats and asked cabbie Douglas Guldeniz to drive them to their new home in Sedona, Arizona.
Monday (4-16-07), the couple, their two cats and the cabbie arrived.
The road trip was in a yellow cab and the ride cost a flat 3-thousand dollars plus gas, meals and lodging. The total bill came to about 5-grand.
Bob Matas says he is surprised by all the attention this has generated.
He says the trip was exhausting as they spent about 10-hours a day in the back seat of the cab. But, he says every state they drove through they would have people recognize them and ask them if they were the ones going across country in a cab.
Their arrival in Sedona was greeted with cheers and a ceremony where they were given Sedona souvenirs from the Mayor.
The couple will spend a couple of nights in a hotel until their 'stuff' arrives.
