The ashes of Star Trek actor James Doohan launched into space today, on board a rocket fired from New Mexico. Although the line "Beam me up Scotty" is constantly quoted, it was never actually said during the series.
Still the lure of space has prompted "Scotty" to have his remains sent up into space. Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry had his remains fired into space in 1997.
Today's launch is the second rocket fired from the site of a planned spaceport about 35 miles north of Las Cruces, New Mexico. The first rocket launch by Connecticut-based UP Aerospace crashed after reaching an altitude of eight miles during the inaugural launch last September 25th.
