Winner of the American Idol audience vote Jordin Sparks was announced at the Kodak Theatre Wednesday during American Idol's Season 6 finale special.

As the newest and youngest American Idol winner, 17-year-old Sparks thanked her family and performed her first song as the official winner.

Millions of fans tuned in for the season finale of American Idol as finalists Sparks and Blake Lewis faced the music for the final time. Special performances featured Gwen Stefani, Gladys Knight, Dougie Fresh, Bette Midler, Smokey Robison, former Idols Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, among others.

Sparks, of Glendale, Arizona, and Lewis, 25, of Bothell, Washington competed on Tuesday's show with three songs each. Both contestants performed ``This Is My Now,'' the tune picked by viewers in an online American Idol songwriting contest. Lewis also performed his interpretation of Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name" and Maroon 5 hit "She Will Be Loved." Sparks sang Christina Aguilera's "Fighter" and Martina McBride's "Broken Wing."
