A California man broke the world record in a hot dog eating contest in Tempe, Arizona Saturday.
Twenty-two-year-old Joey "Jaws" Chestnut of San Jose, California ate 59 and one half hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes at the Southwest Regional Hot Dog Eating Championship at Arizona Mills Mall.
The old world record was 53 and 3/4th dogs eaten by Takeru Kobayashi of Japan during a contest at Coney Island in New York last year. Chestnut came in second in that contest.
Joey Chestnut, with his new found fame, is on his way to New York to throw out the first pitch at the Mets-Diamondbacks game at Shea Stadium Sunday.
