Paris Hilton's attorney told reporters that the heiress has spent her first hours in jail being gracious and polite.
Hilton checked herself into the Los Angeles County jail Sunday night after attending the MTV Movie Awards. She surrendered ahead of schedule and slipped in without being filmed by most of the photographers camped outside the jail.
The 26-year-old will serve 23 days for violating her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. She is due out on June 26.
Jail officials described Hilton as "helpful" and "cooperative" as she was being booked. She was accompanied to the jail by her attorney and her mother.
Hilton will be housed in the "special needs'' unit of the jail in a private cell, separate from the other inmates. She is expected to be allowed out of her cell for about one hour a day.
