Navasota Police have released surveillance video from a convenience store where a clerk is lucky to be alive.
Back on July 23 around 10:00 p.m., a car crashed through the front of the Hi Ho Store and Cafe at Highway 6 and Highway 105.
The driver, Denise Wilson, faces an intoxication assault with a vehicle charge. Police say the 36-year-old intended to hit her brakes, but instead pushed the accelerator when pulling into the lot. Authorities allege she was under the influence of alcohol.
"She had told officers that she had mistaken the accelerator for the brake pedal," said Navasota Police Chief, Shawn Myatt. "But after further investigation, the officers were able to determine that alcohol did play a role in the crash."
The clerk is back at work after suffering head and arm injuries, a remarkable thing considering the video showing him standing near the front of the store, only for the car to come slamming through the wall and into him.
Video was released after the NPD investigation wrapped up and was sent to the Grimes County District Attorney's Office.
"It's unclear how fast Wilson was going, but you have to take into consideration the velocity; he was standing still when she hit him, and the impact was so tremendous she went through the wall," said Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt. "He's definitely lucky to be alive and definitely lucky he didn't obtain critical or even life threatening injuries."
