Death came to David B. Mellor, in Cedar Par, Texas on October 7, 2009. He died a quiet death in his sleep. Dave was 80 years old. There will be no service at Dave's request. Also, in place of flowers have a round of golf, go to a good show - or have a meal at a restaurant and say, "This is on Dave". He hopes that he will be remembered as a fair, responsible individual. Interment will be in the military cemetery at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio. Dave was born in Massachusetts and raised in ten locations in Mass., N.Y., and Pa. He graduated from Palmyra, Pa. High School and always referred to Palmyra as "home". He was drafted in early 1951, for the Korean mobilization but remained in the U.S., stationed in Va., N.C. and Calif., for two years and was separated in February 1953 with the rank of Cpl. Dave utilized the GI Bill, and obtained a BS in Poultry Husbandry from Penn State in 1956 and a MS from Texas A&M in 1957 in Poultry Marketing. He went to Brazil and spent most of the next ten years there assisting with the start up of the modern poultry industry there. He was employed by the International Cooperation Administration (ICA), which later became a part of the Agency for International Development (AID). Dave was very proud to have been a part of the beginning of this industry. In 1962 Dave married M. Susan Scavone in Los Angeles and they went to Purdue where Dave obtained a PhD. in Food Technology in 1965, and they returned to Brazil. In 1967, he and Sue returned to the U.S. with an adopted son, Claude, and Dave served for almost 23 years as Poultry Marketing Specialist for The Texas Agricultural Extension Service. He divorced in 1979 and Sue now resides in Calif. Dave's sister, Jane, lives in Round Rock, Texas, and her two sons and their families also live in the area. Memorials may be made to the Poultry Science Dept., to the Sterling C. Evans Library or to a favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of Beck Funeral Home Cedar Park/Leander 512 259-1610. |
