A big vote of confidence for the Huntsville school district as voters overwhelmingly reject a tax rollback.

Out of the 2,141 who cast ballots Friday, 1,536 (72 percent) voted against the referendum while 605 (28 percent) voted for it.

The election was triggered when the district proposed a tax increase of $.13, an amount exceeding the rollback cap. Huntsville property owners will now be paying $1.34 per $100 of assessed value.

I completely agree with Bob in Huntsville. I, too, voted against the tax rollback, but really it was a vote against Dr. Montgomery. I hope the school board realizes that most of the "Against" vote had little to do with the national economic crises, and can see the real reason for our votes.

It would be nice if the reporter knew what he was talking about before he wrote this article. Voting down the rollback was NOT a vote for the school it was a vote against the superintendant. Dr. Montgomery has misled the school and community for far too long. He even took out an ad in the paper to deceive the public about the money he has wasted and hurt the district. It is past time to run this man out of town and if he follows his pattern he will run all the way out of state. Why did we even hire a superintendant that has bounced around from state to state especially since educational guidelines are established at the state level? Hopefully this vote will show the school board that they need to step up and support the school, the employees, and most importantly the students by getting rid of Dr. Montgomery.

Amazing what people will pay for babysitting. Somehow or someway spending of taxpayer dollars must be reduced or controlled. This cannot go on forever as seen in the financial market crash.
