This week, five years ago, the Aggies came out on top in the Battle of the Brazos. Stephen McGee and Martellus Bennett broke a 14-all tie in the 2nd quarter.Marty B. out-ran the Bears 75 yards to the house to put the Aggies up a touchdown at the half. Baylor tied it up in the fourth, but the fourth quarter was all A&M. A field goal put the Ags up three and this 64-yard Michael Goodson touchdown run gave the game it's final score; Texas A&M 31- Baylor 21.
Ten years back, the Aggies just did get by Seneca Wallace and the Iowa State Cyclones. The Aggies led by ten in the fourth, until Wallace and Craig Campbell hooked up on this 20-yard touchdown, but A&M had the answer in the form of a Derek Farmer run. 65-yards later, the Aggies led by ten and held on to beat the Cyclones 24-21.
This week 15 years back, in 1996, Texas Tech sent Aggie fans home unhappy. The Red Raiders led it 6-3 at the half before the Aggies took their first lead in the third. Dante Hall busted loose on a 28-yard scoring scamper to put the Aggies ahead 10-6. But Tech regained the lead for good with just over six minutes to play. Zebbie Lethridge found Sammie Morris wide open behind the Aggie defense for an 81-yard touchdown as the Red Raiders won it at Kyle 13-10.
20 years ago, the 13th ranked Aggies and the Wrecking Crew shut down quarterback David Klingler and Houston's high powered offense. The Aggies sacked Klingler 11 times on the way to a 27-18 win. Freshman Greg Hill ran for 160-yards and two touchdowns to provide more than enough offense in the A&M victory.
25 years back, it was a nail-biter against SMU at Texas Stadium. The Aggies and Mustangs went back and forth throughout. SMU took a 28-17 third quarter lead but the Ags came back. Roger Vick's 4-yarder put the Maroon and White up 32-28. The Mustangs answered with a Ron Morris 23-yard touchdown on the option, and SMU led 35-32 with just over six minutes to play. However, the Ags answered again. Kevin Murray found Keith Woodside on a 34-yard game winner, as 10th ranked Texas A&M topped SMU 39-35.
Also this week, the Aggies won 17-9 at number 8 Arkansas in 1971.
The eventual 1956 Southwest Conference Champs pulled out a six point win at number 8 Baylor.
60 years ago this week, a 21 all tie in the Battle of the Brazos.
90 years back this week, Texas A&M beat then-Oklahoma A&M on the way to a conference title.
