Blinn College named a record 102 student-athletes to the Fall 2012 Don Wilhelm Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, Athletic Director Scott Schumacher announced today.

To be eligible, student-athletes must post a 3.0 or better grade point average and pass a minimum of 12 credit hours. In all, 42.5 percent of Blinn athletes qualified for the honor roll.

Volleyball player Victoria Estrada, men’s basketball player Jefferson Ocoro, baseball players McCullen Gassaway and Kyle Mueller, dancer Katelyn Ledbetter and cheerleaders Anthony Antonelli, Ilyssa Carrizales, Leslie Hilburn, Alyson Johnson and Patrick Sullivan each earned perfect 4.0 GPAs.

The baseball team posted 22 players to the honor roll, followed by the cheer team with 15 and football with 12. The volleyball team posted the highest team GPA with a 3.34.

“Our athletic department and coaches are very proud of the athletes who have put in the extra effort to succeed both on the field and in the classroom,” Schumacher said. “To balance the demands of elite athletic competition with the high expectations Blinn College has for all its students is an achievement worthy of the highest praise we can offer.”
