ALVIN, Texas – The Blinn Buccaneers defeated the Alvin Dolphins twice here Saturday afternoon to move into a tie for second in the Region XIV Conference South Zone.
Blinn defeated Alvin 9-2 and 3-1 to improve to 10-6 in conference play. The Buccaneers are 24-17 on the season and have now won five of their last six.
The Buccaneers took the lead in the opening game with a three-run fifth inning, then put it away with a five-run seventh.
Marissa Purcell got the Buccaneers on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the second inning. In the fifth inning, Kristina Davila hit a two-run single and Taylor Guidry drove her home with a sacrifice fly to put the Buccaneers ahead 4-1.
In the seventh, Peyton Webb hit a two-run double, Guidry added another sac fly and Purcell and Christina Hartnett each singled.
Shannon O’Connor (13-2) earned the win as she struck out four. She allowed seven hits and walked two.
The Buccaneers got strong pitching in the second game as well, as Caitie Carney (6-6) scattered five hits and a walk and struck out five.
Davila would make sure Carney's performance stood up. The sophomore shortstop hit an RBI single in the first inning, and in the fifth she added a two-run single to drive in all the Bucs’ runs for the game.
The Buccaneers travel to Galveston Wednesday for a 4 p.m. double-header, then return to Hohlt Park on Thursday for their final home games of the season with a 2 p.m. double-header against Lamar State – Port Arthur.
