Blinn Softball Earns Season’s 40th Win After Double Header Win Over Alvin

BRENHAM, TX -- The seventh-ranked Blinn College softball team picked up its 40th win of the season here Wednesday afternoon after defeating the Alvin Dolphins in both games of a double-header at Hohlt Park.

Blinn defeated Alvin 2-1 and 5-3 to improve to 40-7 on the season and 17-3 in the Region XIV Conference.

Sophomore Kaci Federwisch earned her 20th win of the season in the opener, striking out four without walking a batter.

Freshman Caitie Carney hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the fourth inning. In the fifth, Leandra Maly drew a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tiffani McKnight and scored the game-winning run on an RBI double by Thomasina Garza.

The Buccaneers led throughout the second game after Kristina Davila hit an RBI single in the first inning, and the Bucs tacked on three more runs in the second after Garza drove in one and Kristina Davila brought two runners home.

In the sixth, Ryann Jones doubled and scored on a wild pitch.
Shannon Sain (5-3) pitched the first four innings to earn the win, and Jocelyn Tacquard threw the final three frames.

The Buccaneers travel to Eunice, La. on Saturday for a noon double-header against LSU-Eunice.
