BRENHAM, TX -- The Blinn College softball team moved up one spot to No. 7 in this week’s national poll released by the NJCAA. The Buccaneers are 43-6 on the season and 18-2 in conference play with four games remaining in the regular season.
Led by one of the top pitching staffs in the country, the Bucs have four starters with ERA’s under 2.00 and three with ten or more wins.
Sophomores Tara Bell (Baytown) and Alyssa Vordenbaum (Pasadena Memorial) lead the team with 12 wins each, with Vordenbaum leading the staff with a 1.10 ERA.
Brenham High School graduate Kaci Federwisch has an 11-2 mark and 1.59 ERA in what has turned out to be a stellar freshman season. The former Cub standout has held her opponents to a .191 team batting average, while also leading the Bucs in complete games (12), shutouts (6) and saves (2).
Freshman Jocelyn Tacquard (Santa Fe) has compiled an 8-1 record with three shutouts in 50 innings pitched this season.
The Bucs next host San Jacinto for a 4 p.m. double-header today at Hohlt Park. The Bucs are a perfect 12-0 at home this year, and hold a one game lead over San Jacinto in the Region XIV South Zone standings.
