ALVIN, Texas – The Blinn College baseball team split an afternoon double-header against the Alvin Community College Dolphins here Saturday.
Blinn lost the first game of the twin bill 5-4 before defeating Alvin 9-7 in the finale. Alvin won the series opener 9-0 on Friday.
Shortstop Jake Kane hit a two-run single in the seventh inning to put the Buccaneers ahead for good in the series finale, capping off a three-hit game for the sophomore. Freshman Eric Wood went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and Kevin Daniels went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Wood (1-0) won the game in relief, shutting out the Dolphins for 3 2/3 innings. He struck out four while allowing just two hits.
Trevor Seidenberger started the game for the Bucs, allowing two earned runs on four hits while striking out five.
In the opener, Blinn (1-2, 1-2 in Region XIV) rallied for three runs in the final two innings, but it wasn’t enough to pull out the win.
Wood went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Kane and Holden Cammack each drove in runs, but the Dolphins scored three runs in the fifth inning to jump out to a 5-1 advantage that the Buccaneers couldn't completely erase.
Christian DeLeon (0-1) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck out five over five innings.
Michael Vielma threw a scoreless sixth inning.
The Buccaneers will play their home opener at Leroy Dreyer Field Friday when they host Wharton County Junior College at 6 p.m. Friday. That series will conclude Saturday with a 2 p.m. double-header in Wharton.
