Two Blinn College dancers and five cheerleaders have signed scholarships with four-year institutions, coach Sarah Barland announced today.
Dancers Becky Esparza and Lauren White have signed with Stephen F. Austin, while cheerleaders Courtney Rab, Kristen Perez, Nicole Snider-Rodriguez and Lindsey Jones signed with Sam Houston State University. Courtney Comeaux signed a cheerleading scholarship with Texas State.
Esparza, a graduate of R.L. Turner High School in Carrolton, spent two years on Blinn’s dance team.
“It’s been an amazing experience,” she said. “We’ve turned into an awesome family that I’m going to miss a lot.”
White, from Crosby High School, was the Buccaneer dance team’s lieutenant captain this year, her second with the team.
“I’ve met many new people that I will hopefully be best friends with for the rest of my life,” she said.
Comeaux, a Tomball High School grad, said she is looking forward to cheering in front of 50,000 fans at Texas State after spending the past two years at Blinn.
“Blinn was probably the best decision I’ve ever made,” she said.
Rab came to Blinn from Victoria Memorial, Perez is a graduate of Spring High School and Jones came from Ramstein High School in Germany. Snider-Rodriguez is a graduate of Lubbock Coronado High School.
Blinn’s dance team placed second at this year’s NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer & Dance Championships while the cheer team placed fourth in its division.
