(BRENHAM) – After top ten finishes for both programs in 2010, the Blinn Buccaneer football and volleyball programs prepare to kick-off another successful campaign this year with the release of the fall 2011 athletic schedules.
The football program, led by first year head coach Ronny Feldman, look to continue where they left off in 2010 with their 31-27 victory over Arizona Western College in the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl in Copperas Cove, TX. The Buccaneers finished the season with an 8-3 record and a No. 10 national ranking, the program’s third top-ten finish since 2006. The 2009 Buccaneers, led by 2010 Heisman Trophy winner and recent #1 overall NFL draft pick Cam Newton, finished the season ranked No. 1 after winning the program’s fourth national championship.
The 2011 football schedule is highlighted by a Thursday night season opener on August 25 against rival Fort Scott (KS). The Bucs defeated the Greyhounds 55-42 in last year’s contest at the Buccaneer’s new home, Cub Stadium. Other highlights include home games against conference foes Navarro College on October 1 and Trinity Valley Community College on October 15. The October 8 game versus Tyler Junior College will be played at Merrill Green Stadium in Bryan at 7 p.m.
The volleyball program also looks to return to the national spotlight again in 2011, seeking their second title in four years. In 2010, the Buccaneers finished with a 32-7 record and a seventh place finish in the NJCAA National Tournament. The Buccaneers have earned seven trips to the national tournament under head coach David Rehr, who has amassed a 275-35 record and .887 winning percentage in his eight seasons at Blinn.
Volleyball season tips off on August 26, as they travel to Midland for the Midland College Tournament. On September 3, Buccaneer fans can see the team in action at the Blinn Gym, as they host the annual Blinn Labor Day Tournament.
