EUNICE, La. – The seventh-ranked Blinn College softball team split a non-conference double-header against LSU-Eunice here Saturday, dropping the first game 4-3 before bouncing back with a 4-1 victory.
The split left Blinn with a 41-8 record heading into Wednesday’s 4 p.m. double-header at San Jacinto College.
The Buccaneers scored first in both games, opening the day with an RBI single by Shelbe Sterling after Tiffani McKnight doubled to put herself in scoring position. Leandra Maly added another run in the second when she scored on a throwing error.
LSU-Eunice rallied for three runs in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. The Bucs answered in the seventh as freshman Caitie Carney tripled and, with Christa Hartnett pinch running, Maly drove in the game-tying run.
But LSU-Eunice scored in the seventh for the walk-off win. Sophomore pitcher Kaci Federwisch took the loss to fall to 20-6 on the season.
The Bucs scored first in the second game as well as Maly singled and scored on an RBI single by McKnight. LSU-Eunice tied the score in the third inning, but the Buccaneers rallied for three runs in the sixth as Kristina Davila hit an RBI single and Shannon Sain blasted a two-run double to produce the final score.
