Buccaneer softball ranked fourth in preseason poll

BRENHAM, Texas – The Blinn Buccaneer softball team placed fourth at last season’s NJCAA National Championships. It will begin the 2012 season in the same position.

The NJCAA released its preseason rankings Friday, and the defending Region XIV Champion Blinn College softball team was ranked fourth in the first national rankings of 2012. Blinn was ranked seventh in the NJCAA’s final regular-season poll of 2011.

Yavapai (Ari.) College, the defending national champion, is ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll, followed by Salt Lake (Utah) Community College and Tallahassee (Fla.) Community College.

The Buccaneers boast seven sophomores this season, including six returners.

Blinn will open the season at the Whitecap Invitational in Galveston on Feb. 3.
