ATHENS, TX -- The 14th-ranked Blinn College volleyball team is as hot as it’s been all season – just in time for the No. 1-ranked team in the nation.
Blinn defeated Trinity Valley Community College 25-17, 25-19, 25-18 here Friday just four nights before their Region XIV Conference rematch against No. 1 San Jacinto College. The Buccaneers have now won their last five matches, including four via sweeps.
Sophomore outside hitter Ksenia Sukhareva led the Buccaneer offense with 16 kills, freshman setter Crystal Young dished out 31 assists and the Buccaneers had seven total team blocks on the night.
“We wanted to get our blocking game going a little bit more and I think that got better,” Blinn (15-4, 4-1) coach Erin Mellinger said. “That’s one area we’ve been harping on in practice and we did a good job tonight.”
Freshman middle blocker Bruna Evangelista posted eight kills and a team-high nine blocks, and freshman right-side hitter Tyanna Roy added five kills and four blocks.
Sophomore libero Cara Fisher led the defense with 12 digs.
The Buccaneers travel to Pasadena Tuesday for their 6 p.m. match against San Jacinto. The Lady Ravens handed the Bucs their only Region XIV Conference loss 3-1 on Sept. 11. Since that loss, the Buccaneers have dropped just one of the 16 sets they have played.
