Buccaneers complete three-game sweep of Laredo

LAREDO, Texas – The Blinn Buccaneers completed a three-game series sweep of the Laredo Palominos Saturday with a double-header sweep.
Blinn defeated Laredo 7-2 and 13-1 to improve to 6-3 in the Region XIV Conference.
Freshman Robert Dickey led the Buccaneers to the opening victory, allowing one earned run on just three hits in seven innings. Dickey walked four and struck out four.
Blinn scored five first-inning runs as Hayden Vesely hit a two-run triple and Cullen Gassaway added an RBI single. Kevin Santana and Brandon Montalvo each hit RBI singles in the second.
Montalvo and Vesely each finished with two RBIs. Gassaway and Coker each went 2-for-3 and Scott Jones went 2-for-4.
Freshman Weston Wick earned the Game 2 win, allowing one earned run on six hits in 6 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out one.
Michael Vielma threw the final 2 2/3 innings without allowing a run. He allowed three hits and struck out one.
Robert Garza hit a ninth-inning grand slam and Kevin Santana went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Zach McCown drove in a pair of runs and Scott Jones had three of the Bucs’ 11 hits.
Blinn posted four-run rallies in the third and ninth innings.
The Buccaneers (14-11) host South Suburban (Ill.) at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Leroy Dreyer Field.
