BRENHAM, Texas – The Blinn Buccaneer offense ended its 2012 season with a touchdown pass from one freshman to another. It was a fitting end to a year in which many of the Buccaneers’ key players were in their first season of college football.
Blinn hopes the 40-yard touchdown pass from Garry Kimble to Vasquez Haynes in the game's closing seconds will help a young roster carry momentum into the offseason despite a 34-21 loss to Cisco College Saturday at Cub Stadium.
The Homecoming game defeat ends a disappointing season for a proud Buccaneer program, which entered 2012 with nine consecutive winning seasons and four consecutive bowl appearances. With Saturday’s loss, the Buccaneers fell to 2-6 on the season and 1-5 in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference, while Cisco finished 3-6 on the year and 2-4 in the league.
Blinn opened the season with high hopes, but struggled as a young roster attempted to fill the gaps left by Division I recruiters, who grabbed several players who were expected to start at Blinn during their sophomore year. Blinn’s roster included just 18 sophomores this season, and while that left freshmen to take the bulk of the snaps this season, it leaves the Buccaneers excited about what the 2013 season holds.
The Bucs are now 11-8 in two seasons under head coach Ronny Feldman, who led the team to a 9-2 record and an appearance in the Mississippi Bowl in 2011.
