BRENHAM, Texas – The Blinn Buccaneers are headed into Region XIV Conference play with a perfect record and the 13th position in the NJCAA polls.
The Blinn women’s basketball team defeated Temple College 89-75 Wednesday behind double-doubles from forwards Audrisa Harrison and Fatima Adams. Harrison, a sophomore from Point Blank, Texas, scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while freshman Fatima Adams scored 20 points and pulled down 10 boards. Both players are listed at 5-foot-10.
“They played really well tonight. They carried us offensively,” said head coach Jeff Jenkins. “They know how to play the game the right way. They’re both very smart, very strong and most games they’re going to be more athletic than the opposing posts.”
Sophomore guard Aarika Reyna hit three 3-pointers on her way to a 12-point night, and freshmen Amari Jones and Shanequa Gaston each scored eight.
Blinn made 18 of 21 free throws on the night, including 16 of 17 in the second half.
“I told them at halftime if Temple scored in the 70s we probably wouldn’t win, and then we come out and score 51 in the second half,” Jenkins said. “I still haven’t adjusted to having a team that can score points night in and night out like this.”
Aricka Adams led Temple with 19 points and Chanel Miller added 15.
“Temple shot the ball extremely well,” Jenkins said. “It was a good win for us.”
Earlier in the day, Blinn (11-0) climbed three spots in the NJCAA poll to 13th. It is the highest the Buccaneers have been ranked since January 2008, when they were ranked 10th in the nation.
Blinn opens conference play Saturday when it travels to Paris Junior College for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
