ATHENS, TX -- Sophomore guard Christie Mooney scored a season-high 20 points, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Blinn College women’s basketball team past No. 1-ranked Trinity Valley here Wednesday night in an 86-65 loss.
Mooney was making her first career start and has now scored in double digits in three of the Buccaneers’ last four games.
“She’s played really well lately,” Blinn coach Jeff Jenkins said. “She’s really provided our offense with a spark.”
Sophomore guard Denise White scored 14 and freshman forward Shaniqua Dogins added 11 for the Buccaneers, but the undefeated Lady Cardinals proved too much, jumping out to a 39-29 lead by halftime.
All-American Sha’Kayla Caples led Trinity Valley with 26 points as the Lady Cardinals improved to 23-0 on the season and 12-0 in the Region XIV Conference.
“We didn’t play badly tonight, they’re just tough to guard,” Jenkins said.
Blinn fell to 15-7 on the year with a 4-7 conference mark.
The Buccaneers travel to Jacksonville on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip-off against Lon Morris College.
