BAYTOWN, TX -- The Blinn College men’s basketball team returned to its winning ways here Wednesday night with a 78-72 victory over Lee College.
The Buccaneers were coming off a 72-65 loss to Lamar State-Port Arthur on Saturday that snapped a seven-game win streak, but bounced back behind the 24 points from sophomore guard Miles Dixon and 17 from sophomore forward Titus Rubles.
The Buccaneers jumped out to a 30-10 lead early in the contest, but the Rebels rallied late in the first half, pulling to within 36-24 by halftime.
“Our defense was really good early. For the first 14 minutes we were playing like we had in the first semester, but the last 25 minutes of the game, we were just average,” Blinn head coach Tra Arnold said.
Dre Evans, who finished with 14 points, hit three 3-pointers to provide a second-half spark and Dixon hit some clutch free throws down the stretch to help the Buccaneers hold on.
“Miles played really well,” Arnold said. “He played strong and made a lot of free throws at the end of the game.”
The victory improved to 14-2 on the season and 4-2 in Region XIV Conference play with the victory. The Buccaneers are currently second in the South Zone, behind only Lamar State-Port Arthur. Lee fell to 12-5 on the season and 2-4 in conference play.
Blinn continues league action Saturday in Brenham when the Buccaneers host Tyler Junior College at 4 p.m. in the Blinn P.E. Building.
