The Ronny Feldman era got off to a impressive start on Thursday, as the No. 4 ranked Blinn Buccaneers routed the Fort Scott Greyhounds 65-18 in the season opener for both teams.
Fort Scott took a 3-0 lead into the second quarter, but the Bucs would then score 51 consecutive points in a 18 minute span to put the game away.
The Bucs amassed 653 total yards of offense, with 383 of those on the ground. Sophomore running back Marion Grice (Aldine Nimitz) led the Bucs with 241 yards on 16 carries and four TD’s. Two of those were on runs of over 50 yards (52, 70).
Freshman quarterback Eric Matthews (Brookshire Royal), in his first start for the Bucs, completed 12 of 19 passes for 188 yards and three TD’s, one of which was a 74 yard strike to sophomore receiver Xavier Maxwell (Humble). He also added 53 yards on the ground.
The game was part of the opening-weekend series between Southwest Junior College Football Conference schools (Texas and Oklahoma) and Jayhawk Conference schools that's been held since 2006. Blinn has won all six games, including a win over No. 3 Fort Scott in 2010 and No. 1 Butler in 2009.
The Bucs will next host Southeast Prep on Sept. 2 for their home opener. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Cubs Stadium in Brenham.
