Buccaneers fall 6-2 in opening game at NJCAA National Tournament

The No.3 seeded Blinn College softball team were upset by the No. 13 Lake Land College Lakers 6-2 today at the NJCAA Division 1 Fast Pitch National Championship Tournament in St. George, UT.

Blinn got on the scoreboard in the first inning on an RBI single by Ariel Gomez (SO, Sealy). The Lady Lakers then answered in the third to tie the score 1-1.

Lake Land took a 3-1 lead with two runs in the fifth. The Bucs’ closed the gap to 3-2 on a RBI single by Michelle Svehla (FR, Clear Brook) in the sixth inning, but Lake Land’s Jaquelyn Trombi put the game out of reach with a three-run home run in the seventh to give the Lady Lakers a 6-2 win.

Blinn (51-7) will next play at 5:30 p.m. (CDT) this evening against Volunteer State Community College, who were defeated 13-2 by Northeast Oklahoma A&M earlier today.
