West Plains, MissouriBRENHAM, Texas - The No. 1 ranked Blinn Buccaneers return to the NJCAA National Volleyball Tournament this week, looking for their second title in four years. It is the Buccaneers eighth trip to the national tournament under head Coach David Rehr, who has amassed a staggering 310-35 record and winning percentage (.899) in his nine years at Blinn.
Blinn enters the tournament as the undisputed top-seed, after a perfect 34-0 season and a remarkable 19 wins versus ranked or previously unranked opponents.
The Bucs are led by sophomore setter Jackie Gerig (Normal, IL) is third in the nation in assists with 972 (11.1 per set). Sophomore outside hitter Preslie Alexander (Ronald Reagan) ranks among the best in the nation with 1.2 blocks per set while sophomore defensive specialist Kalli Mukulik (Flatonia) is 11th in the NJCAA with 537 digs.
The Bucs open up play on Thursday, as they face No. 16 seed Gadsden State Community College at 1 p.m. The match will take place on Court 1 at the West Plains Civic Center in West Plains, Mo., with the winner facing either No. 8 Eastern Arizona College or No. 9 Miami Dade College later that evening at 7:30 p.m.
