WEST PLAINS, Mo - The No. 1 ranked Blinn Buccaneers easily defeated No. 16 Gadsden State Community College (AL) in straight sets (25-13, 25-10, 25-12) in game one of the NJCAA National Volleyball Championship at the West Plains Civic Center in West Plains, Mo.
The Bucs were led by sophomore outside hitter Shelby Dickson (A&M Consolidated), who led the team with 11 kills and added 10 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Courtni Bauer (Pottsboro) finished with 9 kills and led the Bucs with 5 blocks. Sophomore setters Jackie Gerig (Normal, IL) and Kelsey Schwartz (Brenham) led the Bucs with 18 and 11 assists respectively. Sophomore defensive specialist Kalli Mukulik (Flatonia) led the way with 10 digs, while freshman Ksenia Sukhareva (Moscow, Russia) added three blocks.
"It was a good first win," said Blinn head coach David Rehr. "We looked shaky at the beginning, but we got the nerves out of our system and now we get ready to face a tough opponent tonight."
The Bucs next face No. 8 seed Eastern Arizona College at 7:30 p.m. tonight. Eastern Arizona defeated No. 9 Miami Dade College 3-1 (25-19, 25-17, 18-25, 25-18) this afternoon.
