PARIS, Texas – The 13th-ranked Blinn Buccaneers just keep on winning.
The undefeated Bucs opened Region XIV Conference play here Saturday with a 77-52 victory over Paris Junior College, extending their season-opening win streak to 12 games.
“I can’t remember the last time we won at Paris,” head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “It’s a tough place to play, and this may be as well as we’ve played this season, traveling five hours on the road and then beating a good conference team. It’s a good win for us, and not only that, I thought we played well.”
Freshman guard Moe Bedford led the Buccaneers with 16 points while sophomore forward Audrisa Harrison added 14. Fatima Adams and Aarika Reyna each scored 11 for the Bucs, while Jazzmin Parker added 10 and Shanequa Gaston chipped in nine.
“Moe played well,” Jenkins said. “She hit her first 3-pointer of the year early in the game against their zone, and she’ll really be dangerous once she can consistently hit the three just because she’s so quick off the ball.”
Blinn led 34-25 at halftime, then pulled away in the second half.
“I thought we did a good job defensively,” Jenkins said. “Everybody’s getting a little better defensively, and it helps when you make your baskets and have time to set up your defense.”
The Buccaneers travel to Eunice, La. on Dec. 15 to play LSU-Eunice at 6 p.m. That will mark the team’s final game of the semester before it returns to action in January.
“I would never have expected us to be 12-0 at this point,” Jenkins said. “I’m very proud of them.”
