Bucs could set program wins record Wednesday night
Blinn locked in three-way tie for lead in Region XIV South Zone

The Blinn College men’s basketball team will have an opportunity to take sole possession of first place in the Region XIV Conference South Zone and set a new program record for wins in a season when it takes on Lamar State-Port Arthur Wednesday at the Carl A. Parker Multipurpose Center in Port Arthur.
The Buccaneers, in their third season under head coach Tra Arnold, enter the contest on a seven-game win streak. The team’s 23-5 overall record ties the program mark for victories in a season, and its 13-4 mark in Region XIV Conference action places it in a three-way tie with Lamar State and San Jacinto.
The Bucs have been led this season by sophomore forward Titus Rubles, who has averaged a team-high 15.1 points, and his 9.8 rebounds per game rank No. 1 in the conference.
Sophomore forward Joel Wright is averaging 14.9 points per game, freshman guard Daishon Knight has added 13.6 and sophomore guard Miles Dixon is averaging 12.7 points per game.
After Wednesday’s game against Lamar State, the Buccaneers will close the regular season Saturday with a 4 p.m. tip-off against Lee College in the Blinn P.E. Building.
Blinn’s women’s basketball team also enters Wednesday’s action on a win streak, having won its last five ballgames. Forwards Shaniqua Dogins and Valencia White are tied for the conference lead in rebounds per game, and Dogins is averaging a team-high 12.0 points per game.
The Buccaneer women play at LSU-Eunice at 6 p.m. Wednesday, then travel to Tyler on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip-off. The Bucs conclude their regular season Monday with a 2 p.m. tip-off against Paris Junior College in Brenham.
Blinn is currently fourth in the Region XIV Conference standings.
The Region XIV Basketball Tournament will be held March 7-11 at Tyler Junior College’s Wagstaff Gymnasium. The first round of the men’s tournament begins March 7 while the women begin play on March 8. Both championship games will be held March 11.
