Bucs extend win streak to 15 games
Blinn softball finishes Crossover with perfect 7-0 record
LONGVIEW, Texas – The fourth-ranked Blinn College softball team extended its win streak to 15 games here Sunday with two more wins at the Region XIV Crossover.
Blinn defeated Northeast Texas 4-3 and Midland 3-1 to finish the Crossover with a perfect 7-0 record.
Sophomore Kaci Federwisch earned the win in relief against Northeast Texas, entering the contest in the sixth inning with runners on first and third. Federwisch got the Bucs out of the inning, and Blinn’s bats responded with a pair of runs in their next at-bat to take the 4-3 win.
Amy Acheson went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI and Tiffani McKnight went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Federwisch (10-3) went the entire way in the win over Midland, scattering just three hits without walking a batter.
Kristina Davila and Brittney Krchnak each drove in runs in the first inning, and Michelle Svehla added an RBI in the fifth inning as the Buccaneers improved to 21-4 on the season.
Blinn scuffled early in the season, winning just two of its first five games, but will now play its conference opener against Angelina College Wednesday with a 15-game win streak in tow.
“For the last 15 games, even if we’re behind we don’t panic,” coach Rick Church said. “We know we can put runs on the board. We have a lot of confidence offensively and we’re getting very good pitching.”
Blinn hosts Angelina for a 3 p.m. Wednesday double-header at Hohlt Park in Brenham.
