Eight volleyball players from Blinn College have been named to the All-Region XIV District K team, as voted by the league coaches. In addition, Blinn also took home the setter, libero and coach of the year honors.
Sophomores Preslie Alexander (Ronald Reagan), Shelby Dickson (A&M Consolidated), Jacki Gerig (Normal Community, IL) and Kalli Mukulik (Flatonia) earned a spot on the Region XIV first team, while sophomore Chelsea Soto (Weimar) and freshman Ksenia Sukhareva (Moscow, Russia) were named to the second team. Sophomores Courtni Bauer (Pottsboro) and Paige Hamilton (Smithson Valley) were honorable mentions.
In addition to being named to the Region XIV first team, Gerig was named setter of the year, Mikulik was named libero of the year and head coach David Rehr earned coach of the year honors.
“This type of recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication these young ladies put into the program day after day,” said Rehr. “Each of them bought in to the team-first mentality, and that shows with this number of awards.”
Alexander, a 6-1 outside hitter, was 11th in the nation with 114 blocks (1.2 per set). She finished with 210 kills and a .381 hitting efficiency.
Dickson, a 5-11 outside hitter, finished the season with 291 kills (3.3 per set) and a .336 hitting efficiency. She also was second on the team with 35 services aces (.39 per set).
Gerig, a 5-11 setter, was third in the nation in assists with 972 (11.1 per set). She finished with 72 kills, 29 aces and a .432 hitting efficiency.
Mukulik, a 5-7 defensive specialist, was 11th in the nation with 537 digs (5.2 per set). She also added 32 service aces and 62 assists on the season.
Soto, a 6-2 outside hitter, finished the season with 273 kills (2.5 per set). She also finished with 91 blocks, 76 digs and a .302 hitting efficiency.
Sukhareva, a 5-10 outside hitter, was the lone freshman to garner All-Region honors. She led the Bucs with 302 kills (3.2 per set) and 38 aces (0.4 per set). Additionally, she finished with 173 digs, 55 blocks and a .336 hitting efficiency.
Bauer, a 6-1 middle blocker, was seventh in the nation in hitting efficiency (.490). She also finished the season with 144 kills, 92 blocks and 50 digs.
Hamilton, a 5-2 defensive specialist, finished the season with 32 aces and a .550 hitting efficiency. She was also third on the team with 244 digs (2.6 per set).
Rehr has amassed an impressive 310-35 (.899) overall record in his nine years at Blinn, and is now making his eighth trip to the NJCAA National Volleyball Tournament on Nov. 17-19. On Nov. 16, Rehr will be inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame during a special ceremony.
The Bucs enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed, and will face No. 16 Gadsden State Community College on Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. All tournament games can be watched online at www.ihigh.com/njcaatv.
