Fourteen Buccaneers sign with four-year programs

Fourteen Buccaneers sign with four-year programs
Three sign with Arkansas State, two more with UTSA

BRENHAM, Texas – Fourteen Blinn College football players, including four All-Americans, signed with four-year football programs Wednesday morning after leading the Buccaneers to nine victories and a bowl appearance in 2011.
The Buccaneers’ four-year signees were:
· Ken Smith, DL, Marshall University
· Jeremy Baltazar, DB, University of Minnesota
· Nahshon Davis, DB, Lamar University
· Xavier Maxwell, WR, University of Houston
· Marion Grice, RB, Arizona State University
· Armondo Alverez, OL, University of Texas-San Antonio
· Maurice Poullard, DB, University of Texas-San Antonio
· Anthony Watson, DB, University of Memphis
· Eddie Porter, LB, Arkansas State University
· Ishmail Hayes, DE, Arkansas State University
· John Gandy, DT, Arkansas State University
· Chris Grishby, OL, Oklahoma State University
· Saqwan Edwards, WR, University of New Mexico
· Xavier Ruben, OL, Tarleton State University
“This is a tremendous class of young men who represented Blinn in an exemplary fashion both on and off the field,” Buccaneers head coach Ronny Feldman said. “I look forward to seeing them continue their success for years to come.”
Smith, a 6-foot-4, 285-pound redshirt sophomore from Copperas Cove, made 15 tackles for the Bucs this season.
Baltazar, a sophomore all-conference and All-American defensive back from Timberview High School, made 32 tackles and picked off two passes.
Davis, a redshirt sophomore from Katy Morton Ranch, made six tackles.
Maxwell, a 6-foot-1, 178-pound sophomore from Humble, caught 23 passes for 606 yards and five touchdowns.
Grice, a 6-foot, 215-pound sophomore from Aldine Nimitz, led the Southwest Junior College Football Conference with 1,052 yards and 16 touchdowns on 174 carries to earn all-conference and All-America honors. He was a team captain this season.
Alvarez, a redshirt sophomore from North Shore High School, is a 6-foot-3, 300-pound all-conference and All-America selection. He was a team captain this season.
Poullard, a sophomore cornerback from Dobie High School, made 22 tackles this season.
Watson, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound sophomore safety from Spring Westfield, made 50 tackles for the Buccaneers.
Porter, a 6-foot-3, 235-pound redshirt sophomore from The Woodlands College Park, earned all-conference honors with 65 tackles and four sacks. He was a team captain this season.
Hayes, a 6-foot-6, 240-pound redshirt sophomore from Jefferson Davis High School, made 15 tackles, including four for a loss.
Gandy, a 6-foot-1, 245-pound redshirt sophomore from Cy-Ridge, made 31 tackles and recorded three sacks. He was an all-conference and All-America selection and was a team captain this season.
Grishby, a 6-foot-5, 315-pound redshirt freshman from Brazoswood, was an all-conference selection this year.
Edwards, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound redshirt freshman from Manvel, caught 30 passes for 567 yards and five touchdowns this year.
Ruben is a 6-foot-3, 305-pound sophomore from Baytown Lee.
Over the last two years, these Buccaneers helped the team to a 17-5 record and a victory in the 2010 CHAMPS Heart of Texas Bowl. Blinn went 9-2 this season with an appearance in the Mississippi Bowl in Biloxi, Miss.

    Hayden Mattke delivered a 2 out bases loaded double in the bottom of the third inning as the Troy Trojans beat Nacogdoches Central Heights 3 to nothing in a best of 3 regional semifinal series.
