BRENHAM, Texas – The Blinn College baseball team will look to turn its recent fortunes around in the final week of the regular season after a disappointing three-game sweep at the hands of the Laredo Palominos this weekend.
Laredo defeated Blinn 8-7 Sunday in the final game of a three-game series at Leroy Dreyer Field. The Bucs have now lost seven of their last eight games.
Blinn led Laredo 7-5 heading into the ninth inning Sunday, but made two errors in the inning, including one on a potential game-ending double play. David Rumsey took the loss, allowing three runs – one earned – in two innings. He was pitching in relief of Kevin Hahn, who allowed five earned runs over seven innings.
Sophomore outfielder Markus Carr led the Buccaneers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple and three RBIs. Tyler Boss and D’Andre Heggie each went 2-for-4 and J.C. Neighbors went 2-for-6.
The Buccaneers are now 29-19 on the season and 18-13 in the Region XIV Conference. They will host McLennan for a 4 p.m. double-header Tuesday at Leroy Dreyer Field before concluding the regular season with a three-game conference series against Galveston on April 27 and 28.
