Late free throw sinks Buccaneers
Blinn women fall just short in defensive battle, 50-49
KILGORE, Texas – A free throw with 4.5 seconds remaining lifted the Kilgore Lady Rangers to a 50-49 victory over the Blinn Buccaneers in a defensive battle here Saturday.
Aundrea Gamble scored 15 of her 22 points in the second half to lead Kilgore’s comeback after the Bucs jumped out to a 28-20 halftime lead.
“You can’t score 49 points and win. That just puts too much pressure on the defense,” Blinn (15-6, 4-6) coach Jeff Jenkins said.
Freshman forward Shaniqua Dogins scored 15 points to lead the Buccaneers while sophomore guard Christi Mooney added 14 and sophomore Rebekah Cluley chipped in with seven.
Blinn, which lost to Trinity Valley 64-61 in Brenham earlier in the week, gets a rematch against the No. 1-ranked Lady Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Athens.
