More post-season honors for Blinn’s Gerig and Dickson
BRENHAM, Texas - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has named two Blinn College volleyball players as Two-Year Colleges Women's Volleyball All-Americans.
Setter Jackie Gerig was named to the first team, while outside hitter Shelby Dickson garnered second team honors. Both players were also recently named as NJCAA Division I All-Americans.
Gerig, a 5’11” sophomore from Normal, IL, finished third in the nation in assists with 1,137 (11.04 per set). She also finished with 81 kills and 32 aces, good for a 41% hitting efficiency.
Dickson, a 5’11” sophomore from A&M Consolidated, finished the season with 356 kills, 48 blocks and 266 digs. She was named the national tournament MVP on Nov. 19.
The AVCA Two-Year Colleges All-American Teams are the highest honor at the two-year college level. It incorporates all divisions of the NJCAA (Divisions I, II and III), the California Community College Athletic Association and the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.
With the awards, Blinn now has 11 total AVCA All-Americans, all under head coach David Rehr.
The Buccaneers finished the 2011 season with a perfect 38-0 record, capped off with a four set victory over No. 3 seed Western Wyoming Community College to earn the program’s second national title.
