Navarro tops Blinn in Bucs' final tournament tune-up
Seven-run inning sinks Buccaneers, 13-11
BRENHAM, Texas – A seven-run rally lifted the defending champion Navarro Bulldogs over the Blinn College baseball team 13-11 here Sunday in both teams’ final tune-up before the Region XIV Tournament.
Blinn led 6-2 after six innings, but in the seventh, but Buccaneers walked four batters, committed an error on a potential double-play ground ball, threw a wild pitch and allowed a three-run home run on an 0-2 pitch.
“Everything we needed to do to help them score seven, we did,” Blinn (33-22) coach Harvey McIntyre said.
That inning proved the difference in a game that saw the teams pile up 13 hits apiece.
“That was the only inning when things got away from us,” McIntyre said. “We asked our hitters for a good offensive part, and they did their part.”
Holden Cammack went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Tyler Boss was 2-for-4 with an RBI triple. J.C. Neighbors went 2-for-5 and Eric Wood and Eric Preuss each had RBI singles.
Shortstop Jake Kane added a three-run homer.
“Without a horrible inning there, you have a pretty good day,” McIntyre said.
Blinn threw five pitchers in the game. Trevor Seidenberger threw the first two innings, allowing one run before Karl Malecek threw two scoreless frames. Kyle Mueller added a scoreless inning before Rape allowed six runs in 1 1/3 innings. Taylor Cobb threw the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs.
The Region XIV Tournament will begin May 12 in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Blinn will face Texarkana, the No. 3 seed from the East Zone, in an opening-round game at 1 p.m. that day. The Bucs are the No. 2 seed out of the South Zone.
